Revolutionizing Senior Living: Thoma-Holec Design Partners with Acanthus Development

Thoma-Holec Design, a leader in senior living interior design, is proud to collaborate with Acanthus Senior Living on an innovative project that introduces a groundbreaking senior living model. This concept integrates vibrant residential communities with Catholic church grounds, fostering inclusivity and holistic well-being while redefining senior living environments.

A Visionary Model for Senior Living

Acanthus Senior Living, headquartered in Scottsdale, Arizona, is spearheading this visionary approach with the first of five planned communities breaking ground in April 2025. Each community will seamlessly blend spiritual and residential life, providing a supportive and enriching environment for individuals of all faiths.

The initial communities will be located at:

  • St. Benedict Catholic Church in Ahwatukee (180 beds for assisted living and memory care)

  • St. Clare of Assisi Catholic Church in Surprise, AZ

  • St. Raphael Catholic Church in Glendale, AZ

  • St. Gabriel Catholic Church in Cave Creek, AZ

  • St. Joseph Catholic Church in Phoenix, AZ

Each site will feature thoughtfully designed units for independent living, assisted living, and memory care, offering residents a sense of belonging, community, and purpose.

Expanding Nationwide

This transformative model has already garnered significant attention from dioceses across the country, with expressions of interest from locations in Texas, Nevada, Washington, and Montana. These communities will not only provide exceptional living environments but also create long-term financial benefits for the parishes through 90-year ground leases and steady rental income. Additionally, Acanthus has pledged to donate 10% of each community's net operating income once stabilized, further supporting the church’s mission and outreach.

Designing for Community and Culture

Thoma-Holec Design was selected for its unparalleled expertise in senior living interior design and its proven track record of creating spaces that balance functionality, aesthetics, and comfort.
